im a bit tired of walking into Atlanta, then getting squished by a full jugg who jumps from a skyscraper, spawns a bike mid-air, then spas me to death as they land. it's unrealistic, and flying bikes give me CD, so I thought how to fix this problem. my solution: parachutes! here's my idea summary:
    item name: parachute
    durability/ ammo: 10 durability
    findable: military locations
    buyable from shop: no
use: works like hn parachute, but spawns differently. we can still use the birch seed for a parachute( I think that was what it was)!
to use this item, simply right-click while holding it. go to another hot at slot to disable the parachute. if you do not disable it, you will get slowness 1 upon landing, because you have a parachute being dragged along behind you. for every second it is deployed, it will lose one durability, even I you are on the ground. (similar to Elytra wings, but those don't break while walking)EDIT: Disabling your parachute mid-air results in it being... well... disabled, causing you to fall. if you can redeploy it, that's fine, but if not, rip!
this idea is great and all, but it has some drawbacks. a slow-falling target would be easy prey, right? nope! this item can also be held in your left hand, allowing pistol use from your right hand. since all other gun classes say "can't fire when holding an item in your other hand", there isn't any extra coding to make guns be disabled. armor will not affect falling speed, durability, or any other aspect of the parachute.

I'm also going to include an idea on the Flare gun and riot shield(assuming it isn't finalized), garbage items, and car parts since your here forever! (jk)
    item name: Flare Gun
durability/ammo: 30 durability, uses Flare as ammo source, one flare.
    reload time: 3 seconds
findable: normal structures, same rarity: spawns in 15% of chests. 10 chests= 1.5/10 chance of finding it per chest refil (will be changed to loot drop system)
ammo: flare, same rarity as pistol ammo.
other: creates a red-orange firework explosion (I'll write a /summon code for any admins to test <3)
shows coords of shot location to anyone within 200 blocks in chat, perhaps in the form of a private message with an purple x (red blue orange green and yellow were taken already)
when hitting any entity: sets them on fire for 2 seconds, 1 heart of damage (2 half hearts)

    item: Garbage
    durability/ammo: n/a
purpose: adds a sense of realism to the game. I find it odd that every house has an m9, which isn't realistic. by adding garbage items such as empty cans (would work with a can opening idea @_Nickk posted in another thread), scrap paper (useable in furnaces, lasts for same time as burning a stick), or other items would make the apocalypse feel more real.

    item: Car Parts
findable: mechanical/industrial locations (like Terminus, Suburbs of Atlanta, etc)
use: I'm not sure what you (staff) were using car parts for, but I know Jesus sells them.
    buyable: yeah... from Jesus...

Riot Shield: This was mentioned somewhere, so may as well include my idea.
purpose: blocks same level of damage a normal shield does.
This item is NOT op, because holding it in your main hand means you aren't holding a gun (unless it's in your off-hand, which will constantly be shooting while holding right-click to use the shield). the same applies to main hand, but holding any other gun that isn't a pistol will display the "cannot fire" message (I feel that message is great when it comes to nerfing new items on the spot, never remove it!)
    findable: military locations
    buyable: no
spawn rate: 10% in military locations

    fixing current items:
    1) Nerf pains, either reduce their effect or make them like an opened duffle, which is unstackable (I personally think pains effect is accurate, but the chugging of pains is terrible!)
    2) Add land mines to shop, or (preferred method) make them spawn in military locations 5% of the time. 5% of 10 chests is .5/10 so their rarity is high. also, require wire cutters to be used to diffuse/ break land mines. in a real situation, I don't just rip apart a land mine with my hands! the same code used for barbed wire could be applied to land mines (string).
    3) allow crops to be farmed. I know you can farm them by jumping on them, but that may be qualified as an exploit. if it is, allow crops to be farmed (carrots, potatoes, beetroots, but not wheat (I think wheat seeds are binoculars, and wheat crop was either a duffle bag or a backpack, though I'm not sure if it was refer thread)) if farming with your feet isn't an exploit, then don't add this extra code (assuming it is extra code)
I hope you all enjoyed my ideas, and post feedback below! tell me how I could modify my suggestions, what you think of them, or post your own! much love

You shouldn't be able to reactivate a parachute midair
If you accidentally scroll off of it and die that seems kinda lame so giving them a chance to reopen it at least helps stops accidental deactivation of the parachute.

If you let go of a parachute mid air IRL you cant get it back on....

Well this isn't irl, this is the Mining Dead, so Im giving people a second chance to survive. If someone starts abusing the reopen parachute function, just put a 30 second cooldown on it.

Im pretty sure there isnt a place tall enough for you to fall for 30 seconds+the distance you fell with the parachute on

when falling IRL with a standard commercial parachute you more often than not have 2 parachutes in the pack the main chute and the emergency reserve chute ....

so yes you would be able to activate a parachute a second time provided you had enough time and altitude to do it. disabling the packs 2nd chute would in reality be a death sentence :p

interesting idea tho I doubt it would be very useful out side of Atlanta :/

Well going back to the part of bikes being unrealistic, I'm 99% sure that if you jumped off a building in Atlanta in real life you would die. Even if you had a parachute. Don't think the buildings are high enough. For the parachute to work.

"The United States Parachute Association sets minimum pack opening altitude at 2,000 feet AGL(Above Ground Level as opposed to MSL -- Mean Sea Level) for experienced skydivers, 2,500 feet for slightly less experienced skydivers, and up to 5,500 feet for certain training jumps.

The highest building in atlanta IRL is the Bank of America Plaza building, which is 1,023 feet high. You can probs figure the rest out.

It would go something like this:

*Person on top of an Atlanta building*

"Oh god I'm under fire. Thank god I brought a parachute!"

"Guess I'm going to have to jump"

    *Jumps*

"Wait what the parachute isn't working!"

    "Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!"

    *Splat*

Opening a parachute half a second before you jump would be fine, and since there isn't any wind current to factor in, parachutes would be fine.
Im pretty sure there isnt a place tall enough for you to fall for 30 seconds+the distance you fell with the parachute on
Your not falling for 30 seconds. A cooldown is how long you need to wait before something can be used again. So if I fell for 2 seconds, I would need to wait 30 seconds before jumping from another high place while using parachute.

In theory, if you landed on an object soft enough to absorb your fall, but hard enough to not break as you collide with it, you'll be fine. If you landed on a car at the right angle (car is moving), you would collide with it, sending part of your falling momentum into the car body, while the forward motion of the car also removes part of your fall, turning it to forward motion. Summary: Hit moving car while flying, get hit, slide on ground much far distance. Or miss and go splat. Your choice.
As long as you open the parachute .5-1 second before jumping, youll be fine

I really like the parachute idea! Especially as it already kind of exists in hell night. I think gliding out of skyscrapers in Atlanta would be awesome!

Yeah, everyone always says Atlanta would be the only place to use it, but Im guessing you could still access the roof of Terminus, get on top of the yacht at Finely, or jump from hills like the one outside berx in the new map, if you know what I mean :p

You would die if you did that, because Terminus isn't high enough for a parachute to work. You would land on the ground, break both your legs, then get eaten.

(is carrying 3 stacks of pains, a stack of anti, a bunch of molotovs, and is wearing full riot) nope <3 besides, it would add something fun to the game. The apocalypse doesn't need to be boring you know :p
