    Well the M1 Garand used a clip. It was a large strip of metal folded in several places so that the cartridges could be placed inside and then loaded into the breach of the weapon.     Oh almost forgot. Don't make me have to explain what an assault weapon is. The media and political players already do a great job of calling any firearm that they put on the screen of a TV an "assault weapon."
