Btw, I love your signature, Sarge
Sarge4id, I salute this response. Well done. couldn't have said it better myself.
OOH-RAH!
*slow claps it out*
That was beautiful
by the way, I forgot to mention earlier, thanks for your service. We're lucky to have people like youThank you Mr. Hyper! It's very rare I am appreciated for my walls of text and short stories! Perhaps I should make them a constant sight to see! I believe the more info you can fit into a box of text, the more of your opon you can share. Also hopefully the less question you will have to answer.
And thank you as well Mr. Fox! It's good to get post a reply on a topic that doesn't have to do with morality.
And I went back and read most of the replies. I'm in strong favor of silencers/suppressors (always liked the term silencer better). I think your idea on sound/player detection and decreased damage is an excellent and very realistic idea. Subsonic ammo does exactly as what some people mentioned above. That is why it is only used in raids, urban warfare, and other similar ops. Also, silencers have a lifetime. They don't last forever. Especially one that are used on full auto weapons or high powered rifles. Eventually they have to be replaced and since they would be expensive, players might only use them during certain times like in atlanta during the night time. "I think you did a damn good job."
yea no revolvers cant have suppressors because the open space between the cylinder & barrel kinda renders it redundant. And the WW2 revolver you are thinking of is the Belgian / Russian / Soviet 7.62x38mmR Nagant M-1895. It could do this because mechanically the cylinder would move forward locking against the barrel / breach when the hammer is pulled and a round is ready to fire thus creating a sealed system.

Well I'd like to call it educational feedback. Being an avid firearms collector, NRA member, a smith and custom designer, loading all of my own ammo, having fired more different types of firearms than I can remember, having fired and handled military firearms such as the rpg7, ak47/74, svd, akm, pkm lmg, g36, mp7, mp5, m4, m16, m28 (r700), barrett .50cal amr, a mounted mini on a uh-60 (I was allowed to "test fire" it), at4, law, vehicle mounted m2 .50 cal browning mg, m249 lmg, and a few other not counting pistols.
My unit along with a lot of others were tasked with securing hidden weapons caches in iraq. We found more than anyone else in the army combined. Sometimes, we'd use some of the weapons we found before turning them over. I carried and used and ak74 with a folding stock for a few hours. Also we did some naughty things that we weren't supposed to do. Like going somewhere unpopulated and everyone getting to shoot the stuff we had acquired. Thats where I got to fire an rpg twice, some aks/akm, pkm, svd, re-captured laws and at4 anti-tank launchers we had given Saddam a few decades ago. was trained to operate the m16, m4, m249.
A sniper buddy of mine let me shoot his m28 and I got to fire a barrett .50 cal amr as well. A ranger unit was present at one time and they let some of us try out the spec op stuff they get to use at the range. Abrams, Bradleys, and several other armor crews carry smg's instead of rifles or carbines. They're usually variants of the mp series by hk.
Also, I own a lot of pre-assault weapons ban firearms such as mac's, tec's, a mini uzi, and a few others. I have acquired the collections of my grandfather, several uncles, and my own father. They turned over a number of firearms but kept some because they felt that the 2nd amendment was being violated. I also go to gun shows where I get to shoot and buy new weapons. I also own many suppressors or silencers as well. Where I am, they are perfectly legal to purchase and own. I even sell them sometimes but they cost more than a lot of nice handguns do.
That being said...I felt like I wanted to educate (in a non-insulting way), and clarify some of the assumptions that several posters have/had about particular weapons. The in game weapon tiers, themselves, are acceptable. But the weapons that are in some of those tiers do not belong in the tier they're assigned to. As a "gun nut" this really annoys me. I constantly comment on it ingame. From what I know of the programming and mods I hired someone to do for one of my servers, make a gun mod, a lot of the info is stored on config-like files and can easily be manipulated. If I am correct about this, weapon models and their visual icons ingame would need to be switched around like musical chairs. No need to remove or rebuild a chair. Just have another person sit in it, for example. One of my biggest annoyances is the ak being a t4 weapon over the g36. That is a red flag and if I had put that on my server I'd fear the wrath of someone that knows better, seeing it. Basically, it would show I know nothing about certain firearms and that I should have consulted someone that did.
Don't get me wrong, I really like tmd and mw the way they are. They are the best in their class. But I would like the RPG to work. It should be very expensive and the ammo cost about 1k per. And maybe you could only carry 5 rocket grenades on you at any given time. Same for grenades, 6 max and that is pushing. The flamer could be made to fire a much much more narrow "stream" of fire. You would basically paint your target with it. Right now it acts like a firework. I don't know if the flamer's spread was intentional or a lack of knowing how it should operate.
My intent here is not to put anyone down or try to make anyone feel stupid. I'm sorry if I come accross this way. My intent is to try and get these things changed or fixed so that they behave more like their IRL counterparts. In the tv show, they use some of these weapons. Even though they're firing blanks, the body damage that it does to the actors/stunts is pretty realistic. they have consultants from the civi and mil areas that know and have probably seen the damage an rpg can do to a person. I have. They have a lethal radius just like hand grenades, but it isn't like a stick of tnt going off that takes out 10 block or more. The standard and most common RPG rocket propelled grenades were originally designed with a shaped charge to to help penetrate a tank's armor so most of the blast is frontal and not off the the sides. It could be turned into an expensive and powerful weapon in the game but have a limited blast radius as it does IRL and thus not be too OP
I know as mostly youth, you don't care about this kind of logic or whether it behaves like a IRL counterpart. You just want a cool looking gun to shoot someone with and to me the guns in their tiers are based off of media popularity they receive and not their actual performance. For example, no one carries a desert eagle as an issued sidearm or a personal sidearm. I've owned one and I sold it after shooting it once. The gun is very heavy and has to be carried in a rig. The ammo is more expensive than .45ACP, so you mise well carry an m1911 single stack magazine. But for all intents and purposes, it is a powerful weapon and a cool one at that. So I have no complaint about it staying in the game.
I figure the devs are all so super busy with MW that they won't take the time to change these things. I guess that's ok for now because I've tried out mine wars and I want them to put the costumes and stuff in the store already! lol! I'm an epic sith fan. Can tell you their entire history from the very first fallen jedi knight that started experimenting with taboo force abilities. Also a big fan and expert of the Star Wars weapons. All the parts required to build a lightsaber, What kind of energy cells jango fett's blasters used. The actual weapon (not really a weapon), they used to make boba fett's carbine. Did you know e-11 blaster rifles are sterling smg's? They do got the dark saber that was from the clone wars in the game which really impressed me. The sith also used to use solid swords in combat against jedi with lightsabers. Their swords were indestructible. The reason why Kylo Ren's lightsaber has a fluctuating blade because the kyber crystal is cracked. This actually cause more damage then a stable lightsaber blade, but the extra heat created must be shunted. His hilt is also based off of an ancient hilt back from the scourge of Malachor V. I do wish I could be a consult on the MW team.
